Wireless LAN

Wi-Fi Is Like the Internet Itself
Nicholas Negroponte

What it is

Wireless LAN (WLAN), also known as Wi-Fi®, is the technology that can carry data transmission over the air by means of radio waves. Using Wireless LAN it is possible to realize independent LANs, to extend existing (wired) LANs, or to realize point-to-point and point-to-multipoint links.

Advantages

Some of the advantages using Wireless LAN are:

  • minor costs;
  • high scalability;
  • can be merged with wired networks;
  • low impact on existing infrastructures;
  • plug & play;
  • mobility inside the coverage area;
  • hardware compatibility with different vendors.

Equars offers Wireless LAN solutions either for local networks or remote links. For security management, Equars developed WiSAS® (Wireless Secure Access Server), that realize the functions of access controls.
WiSAS® also makes possible to create a Internet hot-spot, either for public use or private enterprises.
